This has been at least two months overdue, so I'm just going to get it out of the way now. Please note that this is only my opinion (albeit my very violent and aggressively put opinion), and I don't have any problem with anyone offering a different point of view. I just need to get this off my chest. To begin bluntly:

FUCK ARCHIE SONIC'S WRITERS. JUST... FUCK THEM.

Those idiots took a comic that was near-flawless in its characters, plot, and background, and attempted to continue writing the series.

What they did instead was bash the series into the ground, tear it into bloody little pieces, and rape the mutilated husk that was left over. Those bastards have ruined everything that was good about the StH comic.

And this is not a recent event. In my opinion, they've been slowly disfiguring and destroying the series since the end of the Xorda story arc.

First, they had Sonic and Sally break up in a violent argument. Not only did they destroy one of the most supported couplings in the Sonic fandom, but they took Sally completely out of her typical persona, depicting her as a selfish, narrow-minded individual who was completely unable to see the big picture-- an individual that didn't look or feel like the Sally that fans have known for so long, whatsoever.

Next on the writers' to-do list of comic war crimes was turning Fiona into a "bad guy" and, like Sally, taking her completely out of character and turning her into a total bitch. No society-- not even a monarchy at war with an empire led by an intellectual megalomaniac-- would EVER tolerate someone doing what the writers had Fiona do to Tails. You do NOT slap an 11-year-old child. EVER. Especially when said 11-year-old is baring his soul to you. If I were in a situation where I saw a girl do that to a kid under those circumstances, I'd bitchslap her so hard her neck would snap.

Not only that, but then the writers had to make it so that Fiona hooked up with Scourge-- SCOURGE, A FREAKING BIKER-BOY REJECT AND ONE OF THE MOST ARROGANT ASSWIPES IN COMIC BOOK HISTORY!!

Next up on the list, the writers went and proceeded to kill off half the supporting characters who had lent a decent amount of depth to the backgrounds of the main characters. Tommy Turtle, Sir Connery, Antoine's father... (okay, that one came before the incident with Fiona, but still...) What the hell was any of that supposed to DO? In the case of each of those characters, killing them lent nothing to the storyline. What was the freaking point?!!

The writers gained a brief period of saving face when they brought the individuals from the Dragon Kingdom back to the series (Iron Queen/Regina Ferrum, Iron King/Jun Kun, the four Brides, etc.). Yet almost immediately, they resumed f**king up the storyline by turning Espio and later NICOLE into temporary "bad guys". And the manner in which they did so was ridiculous in concept for both cases. If Espio were a truly committed friend of Knuckles, the Chaotix, and the Freedom Fighters, he would NOT let some old "obey-your-clan-or-BE-DISHONORED" custom hold sway over his loyalties. Once again, the writers took a character completely out of their established personality.

As for NICOLE, the writers decided that the Iron Queen would take control of her using her "Magitek" crap. Seriously? NICOLE, a supercomputer of the highest caliber with countless tools, weapons, and computer-controlling apparatuses at her disposal, designed by the future version of Rotor and sent back in time, couldn't even defend herself against some foreign techno voodoo? One would think NICOLE would've been equipped with defenses against something like that, given that she came from the future. The Acorn Kingdom would've had to have done SOMETHING about the Iron King and Queen by that time, after all, and considering that Magitek was the Iron Queen's greatest power, it seems logical that they would've figured out the means to overwhelm or neutralize that power. But nooooo, NICOLE just fell to Regina Ferrum's control like a cardboard cut-out figure being tipped over by a light breeze.

As if all that wasn't enough of a slap in the fandom's face, they tried to create a romance between Sally and Monkey Kahn!! SERIOUSLY??!! SALLY AND KEN KHAN??!!! WTF?!! The only hint of a romance (in the loosest sense of the word) that was EVER implied between those two was during Khan's first appearance back in the pre-Eggman years of the series! And THAT was less of a romance and rather more of a "monkey see pretty girl, monkey take girl as trophy" thing.

Fast-forwarding through a bunch of other sub-par quality stories in which even more characters get twisted out of their natural selves and taken completely out of character (*cough* >TurningVectorfromaborncityslickerintoanAussie< *cough cough*), we finally come to the most recent issues of StH. Here, we finally see the bullet-hole ridden maze of off-the-scale inconsistencies, crappy plot twists, and pointless changes accumulate and merge into one big shitstorm. First, Geoffrey is turned into a traitor who apparently serves Ixis Naugus and restores his crippled mind with a Chaos Emerald (gee, that's strange-- why didn't that happen back with the Chaos Emerald that Sonic had to bring to Mogul to make the mammoth stop using mind control on Sonic's friends? Can you spell "inconsistency"?). Then it's revealed that Geoffrey himself is an Ixis Wizard who can turn his body into smoke skunk gas *rolls eyes*, and Hershey is either MIA or KIA. Next up, Eggman's base turns out to be TEH DETH EGG, MARK II. We see the old Death Egg storyline re-vamped-- sorry, RECYCLED-- and then followed up by a crappy and convoluted CliffNotes version of Sonic's origins ("Sonic: Genesis", as they put it).

Even through all of the shit that the writers have piled on the series, I continued to remain a faithful fan of the story. But what the writers did next crossed the line and left me feeling betrayed:

They had Sally roboticized and have turned her into a long-term pawn of Eggman for the next several issues.

The final nail in the coffin came when I read these on the Mobius Encyclopaedia site (the 'official' StH Wiki) :

That's it. I'm done with the StH series. Everything I loved about the series has been ruined utterly by Tracy Yardley (for consenting to draw all those crappy plot scenes), Ian Flynn (we know damn well what this guy's done :iconraegplz:), Paul Karninski (and every other editor who allowed this crap into the series), and every other writer and contributor to the series who allowed it to degrade into what it is now.

DISCLAIMER IN RESPONSE TO A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS RANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY AN OPINION AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY REFLECT THE VIEWS OF ANY MAJOR PART OF THE SONIC FANDOM IN GENERAL.
I denounce all of them. Unless they somehow undo all the ruin they've brought to the series, I hope they all burn in nerd hell** for eternity. From now on, the only StH storyline I devote myself to is my own and the ones of other fans who try to preserve the former brilliance of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.

*Nerd hell: A separate hell from the regular one, for nerds who betray their brothers. It is a place where nothing exists that nerds enjoy-- no video games, computers, internet, fantasy board games, trading cards, fantasy novels, or anything else nerds like. All that exists in nerd hell is an impossibly large white room, filled with jocks who are all demanding help with their algebra homework from the nerds that get sent there.

I have nothing more to say. Later, guys.

You know things have gone to SHIT for the StH comics when J. Axer, that's right I said it, was the best artist for the comics in comparison to the shit in the comic now! Oh yes, I said it!:iconmhmmplz:

What I wouldn't give for a reboot that doesn't follow the whims and fickle nature of the game series for both the comic and show, something a little more gritty and breathtaking, not just a juxtaposition between cute and fuzzy and a post-apocalyptic wasteland filled with robots, like what fellow deviantartist jarredspekter is doing.

Still, I suppose we only have ourselves to blame (by that I mean the fanbase) I mean, we want cute and fuzzy, we get cute and fuzzy beyond the impossible. We want controversy and dark, we get controversy and dark cranked up to eleven. You see where I'm going with this?

Oh, I definitely see it-- Ian Flynn and/or the other writers don't know how to use something called "moderation". Why else would they be going to extremes BOTH WAYS? We don't want "Care Bear" cute, we want "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" cute!* We don't want "Silence of the Lambs" controversy and darkness, we want "Get Smart (The Movie)" controversy and darkness!**

*The characters in that show pull cute stunts, but they don't make it obnoxiously syrupy-- there's an element of maturity they retain.

**And that movie DID have some of those two things. It wasn't super-easy to spot, but it was there alright.

Now you get why I don't like canon at times. Still, trash can become treasure...

Even if by some ridiculous chance, Flynn's trash managed to become treasure, it would be stolen treasure, in one way.

I'm not gonna point fingers PUBLICLY, but between you and me, I believe that bastard ripped off one of MY plot devices from MY fanfiction series:

Fact: In the latter half of my fanfiction's "Trip Down Memory Lane" chapter, I had Hyper Metal Sonic being rebuilt on the planet Freedom after his indestructible processor core had been recovered by the military.

Fact: I also had him deciding to serve Freedom's government so that he could use his capabilities for good.

Fact: Sometime in the most recent 10 issues of StH, Flynn apparently decided to write the following little twist into the comic's plot:

The second Metal Sonic model (which supposedly met its end after it sacrificed itself holding back a lava flow so Sonic and Tails could get to safety) is "re-discovered", re-activated, and upgraded, and ends up joining the Acorn Secret Service.

After putting two and two together, I'm suspecting that somehow, Ian Flynn stumbled onto my fanfiction, and decided to create a knockoff of it for his uses. If this is indeed the case, then he's officially earned himself an IRL bitchslap of devastating force-- and I won't hesitate to deliver it to him when he least expects it. First chance I get...

It can happen unintentionally you know! (What you just described on top)

Normally, I would be thinking it WAS unintentional. The reason that I'm suspicious in this case is because the plot device Ian implemented into the storyline of StH has several details that are eerily similar to those in my own plot device.

(Specifically, all of the following premises are used in my plot device and Ian's plot device the plot device Ian used:
- The Metal Sonic model in question was apparently destroyed years prior to the present time in the storyline.
- Metal Sonic's destruction came about as a result of him sacrificing himself to rescue individuals who were technically his enemies at the time.
- Back in the storyline's present time (or very close to it), some form of Metal Sonic's 'remains' are uncovered and retrieved by one of the story's protagonist parties.
- Said protagonists restore Metal Sonic to functionality and build him a new body.
- Metal Sonic subsequently aligns himself with the protagonists, becoming their ally.)

This may make it a bit more clear as to why I'm a little suspicious about the plot device Ian used in the StH comic.

To make it worse, he made Silver say "It's No Use". Yes, we get it, Flynn. You've played the games. You don't need to beat it into our heads.
